Believers are to test the 'spirits' to determine if they are from God.

The best way to do that is to quote the hard teachings in the Word of God and listen to the responses. Yochanan shares this with us.

Yochanan 6:60 On hearing it, many of His talmiydim said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"

A person who is not willing to actually follow the Messiah will refuse to accept His hard teachings. That person will obfuscate and twist out of it.
